Douthit began his professional career in 1981 as the Communications Director for Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT). There, he created promotional materials and supervised media relations including trade show marketing. He eventually became Western Regional Director and Vice President of Media Relations. In 1986 he began work as a producer on the Chicago Board of Trade show and was later promoted to director. He left in 1992 to pursue graduate studies at USC, but continued working as an executive producer for the most notable productions of CBOT.
In 1994 and 1995 Douthit worked for CNN as a production assistant. In 1996 he started working for Fox, a division of News Corporation. After working there for 2 1/2 years, in 1998 he became the Executive Producer of “The West Wing” and was responsible for numerous television shows including the “Barney Miller” revival, “Chicago Hope”, and “New Amsterdam”, along with several others. In 2000 he became executive producer on the television show “Roseanne”. In 2001 he started working as the producer of the “Big Brother” series and “America’s Next Top Model”. He still works as a producer today, at Sacramento, California.
Randy Douthit has been heavily involved in media and political campaigns. In 2004 Douthit and his team helped elect Jim Hightower as Texas Agriculture Commissioner. In 2008 he became the Senior Media Advisor for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
Douthit also has worked with major media companies such as Yahoo, and is currently working in developing new technology to use in television programs and shows.
