Its Achievements
Alliance Defending Freedom is a leading legal organization specializing in defending religious freedom. Since its founding in 1994, ADF has been involved in some of the most important cases about religious liberty in the United States.
ADF’s achievements are many and varied, but perhaps most notable among them is its work in helping to pass legislation that protects religious freedom at the federal level. In addition, ADF has been instrumental in overturning state laws that would have limited religious freedom. It has also successfully defended individuals and businesses sued for acting by their conscience.
Alliance Defending Freedom is a proud organization for religious liberty, life sanctity, marriage, and family. We are grateful for all the ways God has used us to defend His truth and advance His Kingdom. Here are just some of our accomplishments:
- In 2017, we won 9 Supreme Court cases, including the landmark case Trinity Lutheran Church v. Comer, which affirmed that the government might not discriminate against churches and other religious organizations when awarding grants or other benefits.
- We have also been victorious in numerous lower court cases, including one in Iowa, where we stopped a public university from discriminating against a Christian student group.
- In addition, we have filed over 50 friend-of-the-court briefs with the Supreme Court since 2012, and our lawyers have argued 11 times before the justices.
- Our Center for Academic Freedom has helped over 200 professors and students who have faced discrimination because of their beliefs.
- Through our work with state and local officials, we have passed nearly 500 pieces of pro-life legislation nationwide.
- We have also trained over 3,100 pro bono attorneys to take on religious liberty cases in their communities.
