Tom Keane, a research engineer at the British Space Agency, has been involved with space development for more than eight years. Tom is an expert in modeling space systems, from 3D and physical simulations to modeling onboard computer models. He also has a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Leicester and is currently working with Microsoft Azure cloud computing service. Tom Keane´s passion for Space is evident from his website: “I am interested in the whole range of space activities – from satellites to orbits, to a Moon base.”
All About Tom Keane
- Career Background
The software developer and engineer has spent eight years in the British Space Agency (BSA) as a research and development team researcher, focusing on modeling and simulation. Tom Keane also has a Ph.D. from the University of Leicester in Aerospace Engineering, where he worked on satellite plasma thrusters.
After leaving the BSA, he started working with Microsoft Azure cloud computing service using C# programs, which he believes will be key to space programs’ success over the next few years as Tom Keane explains.
Software developer and cloud services engineer Tom Keane was born and raised in Nottingham, England, where most of his family still lives and operates a small engineering company. As a child, he had an enthusiasm for science fiction books and could be found reading them before school. He was later inspired by space documentaries and even visited NASA to view the Space Shuttle Endeavour. That got him interested in studying Space and physics.
His Ph.D. thesis was related to designing plasma thrusters for satellites, which are used mainly for station keeping. Tom Keane has been very successful in his career and has been involved with space development since university. He has applied his skills to many aspects of space simulation and is a big fan of NASA.
