Born in Miami, Stephen Bittel attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School, and later the Arts School of Bowdoin College in Maine. He won the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, getting a grant to travel abroad in Europe. Later on, he joined the University Of Miami School Of Law, but studying law wasn’t his passion. While in law school, Stephen Bittel started working as a full-time employee in commercial real estate. With time, he realized he could do better by establishing his own company. Between 1980 and early 2000s, Bittel focused on growing the company’s portfolio by dealing with shopping centers in fast-growing suburban areas.
