Kfir Gavrieli has used his success to help the communities around him. The Los Angeles native had successful careers in the hedge fund, venture capital, technology, and real estate industries. He found resounding success in 2009 when he founded Tieks, an entirely web-based fashion brand retailer. Tieks distributes Italian leather ballet flats known for comfort and durability. Kfir Gavrieli made Inc Magazine’s “30 Under 30” list. In addition, Forbes named Tieks one of its “25 Most Innovative Consumer Brands,” and Entrepreneur listed it amongst the “Top 30 Startups to Watch”.
The success of Tieks has allowed Gavrieli to give back through the formation of the Gavrieli Foundation. The Foundation partnered with KIVA, a charitable microfinance organization, to facilitate over $10 million in microloans for women living in poverty worldwide. The effort made Tieks the largest loan provider in KIVA’s history.
Gavrieli credits his success to his parents. His immigrant parents came to the US speaking little English. Yet they built a successful business and taught Kfir Gavrieli the value of a strong work ethic and giving back.
The early days of the COVID pandemic presented another opportunity to give back. When Gavrieli learned from a friend that essential health care workers were experiencing mask shortages, he sprang into action. He purchased sewing machines and had Tieks’ employees make face masks for health care workers. When it became apparent that the efforts were not enough, Gavrieli started a social media campaign inviting others to help. Tieks reached out to its customer base, offering gift certificates to reward customers that donated face masks. And Gavrieli did not stop there. Tieks also provided gift certificates to essential health care workers, to thank them for their service.
Kfir Gavrieli believes in giving back. His success at Tieks has allowed him to do that.
