Ben Roethlisberger: Charitable Family Man and NFL Quarterback

Ben Roethlisberger is a notable American athlete and a man whose Christian ideals drive him to charity. He was born in Lima, Ohio to Ken and Brenda Roethlisberger on March 2, 1982, and he grew up outside Findlay, Ohio.

He and his sister, Carlee, both became involved in sports and played through the collegiate level. In high school, Ben captained three sports teams: the football team, the baseball team, and the basketball team.

Ben went on to attend Miami University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education as an example for future generations of Roethlisberger’s, showing his posterity the importance of education even as he remained involved in sports. He married his sweetheart, Ashley Harlan, at Christ Church at Grove Farm on July 23, 2011, and they have since then had three children: a son Benjamin Jr., a daughter Baylee Marie, and a daughter Bodie.

Family has remained important to Ben, whose role as a father has been commented on by other athletes. Family is also central to Ben’s charity, the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, which, as its mission, seeks to build stronger families.

Ben Roethlisberger and his wife have also used the money from Ben’s career as a quarterback to support families with ill children through organizations like the Ronald McDonald House, the Make a Wish Foundation, and NeoLight. Ben Roethlisberger has also supported efforts to feed the homeless in Pittsburgh with events where he matched donations made to the Light of Life Rescue Mission.

Professionally, he played quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Over his time on the team, he set many records, won many awards, and worked toward many Super Bowls. Among his many accomplishments, he won Rookie of the Year in 2004, became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl in 2006, and was named the Steelers 2013 Walter Payton Man of the Year.
