Activision Blizzard just announced that Frances Townsend has been appointed Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Compliance Officer. In this role, Townsend will be responsible for government relations, public policy, and compliance across the company. She joins Activision Blizzard from a senior advisory role at MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc.
Townsend is a recognized expert on national security and counterterrorism issues. She served as the Homeland Security Advisor to President George W. Bush from 2004 to 2007, where she oversaw the development and implementation of the Administration’s homeland security policies. Most recently, she was a Distinguished Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Townsend has also held senior positions in the private sector, including as a partner at Goldman Sachs and as head of global security for Barclays Capital. She currently serves on the boards of directors of Royal Dutch Shell plc and Raytheon Company.

Townsend will be based in Santa Monica and report to Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick. She will also serve on the company’s Executive Committee.
